Consultant on Legal Aspects of IT Business

Turkmenistan’s transition to a market economy requires workforce development aimed at equipping the labor force with modern, market-matched skills and knowledge. Towards this goal, USAID’s Youth Development Activity will connect Turkmenistan youth (ages 15-28) with employment and entrepreneurship opportunities and create sustainable linkages between training providers and the labor market.

The activity will engage with three key stakeholder groups (youth, employers, and training providers) to understand and match skills-driven educational approaches to the current and future demands of the Turkmen economy

Overall Objective and Purpose

As part of the strategic objectives, YDA implements Startup Bootcamp program that supports young people interested in starting IT businesses by connecting them with consultants, trainers, businesses, and potential investors. The program also includes trainings in soft skills, digital marketing, business planning, and product development, as well as individual consultations on the business, financial, marketing, and legal aspects of starting and running IT businesses. YDA will hire a consultant on legal aspects of starting and running IT businesses who will support the Startup Bootcamp participants through providing training and consultations.

Responsibilities:

The consultant will be responsible for implementing the following activities in coordination with YDA staff.

  • Conduct interactive workshops and training sessions for YDA’s Startup Bootcamp participants on legal topics relevant to startups including but not limited to:
  1. Business formation and structuring
  2. Intellectual property protection
  3. Contract drafting and negotiation
  4. Compliance with regulations, liability protection and dispute resolution
  5. Fundraising and investment agreements
  • Provide one-on-one consultation sessions to bootcamp participants, offering tailored legal advice and addressing specific legal concerns.
  • Develop and distribute legal resources and materials that can be used as reference guides by participants.
  • Assist in creating a legal framework or checklist that participants can follow to ensure their businesses comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the YDA Startup Bootcamp organizers to ensure that all legal content is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant to the participants' needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Higher education degree in business law or related fields.
  • At least 2 years of experience in legal consulting or training or a closely related field.
  • Exceptional facilitation, presentation, and public speaking abilities.
  • Proficiency in Turkmen and Russian is mandatory. Fluency in English is an advantage.
