The Youth Grow Activity (YGA) is a five-year (2023-2028) USAID-funded project implemented by Q2 Impact and partners, adopting Positive Youth Development (PYD) principles to empower Jordanian youth for the benefit of the youth and society at large. The YGA targets youth aged 10-29, prioritizing girls, women, people with disabilities, and isolated or economically disadvantaged communities. The YGA focuses on three core objectives: (1) preparing youth for economic opportunities by providing access to high-quality online career counseling and entrepreneurship and employability readiness services; (2) strengthening youth leadership, inclusion and social participation through targeted support of local youth-led organizations (YLOs) and youth-serving organizations (YSOs) and (3) strengthening Jordan’s youth support systems to create youth inclusive and enabling economic and social environment, in partnership with the youth.
The YGA Theory of Change (TOC): The YGA believes that equipping youth and families with knowledge, resources, and leadership opportunities, along with stronger youth-inclusive systems, will lead to increased youth engagement in their economy and communities.
Overarching Activity Objectives and Expected Key Result Areas
YGA aims to achieve three main objectives:
- Enhance youth readiness for economic opportunities. Through increased access to career counseling and employability information, access to employability and entrepreneurial readiness services, and access to funding opportunities, the youth will be better prepared and inspired to start income generating opportunities and engage in the private sector.
- Enhance youth involvement in decision-making and leadership. Local YLOs, YSOs, and youth groups will be supported to engage youth and strengthen their leadership capacities to provide and implement solutions and initiatives that enhances youth readiness and accessibility to economic opportunities.
- Strengthen national youth support systems and enabling environment. Co-creating youth-effective services and policies in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and other influential stakeholders, to foster an enabling environment for PYD-grounded youth participation in economic sectors.
ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Communications Officer will support in developing high quality communication and visual products for Youth Grow Activity (YGA). The Communications Officer will support the Strategic Communications Specialist and YGA’s technical team to develop storytelling products, videos, infographics, and other communications deliverables. S/He will draft social media posts and ensure the USAID Marking and Branding guidelines are consistently upheld. S/he will frequently travel to the field to collect professional photos and videos, as well as conduct interviews to document YGA’s interventions and success stories that will feed into varying reports and communications deliverables. S/he will produce high-quality videos, create innovative digital and multimedia products, and design printing materials for different projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent English/Arabic language skills, excellent proficiency of Adobe Creative Suite and Canva, creative eye for branding and design, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and s/he will be able to effectively communicate with individuals from different backgrounds.
- Work with the Strategic Communications Specialist -and in collaboration with the technical teams- to develop storytelling products, press releases, and other communications deliverables to highlight program impact, innovation, and influence.
- Provide design/drafting support to YGA’s contributions to the USAID Implementing Partners’ Newsletter and company newsletters.
- Enrich YGA deliverables with value-adding graphic designs.
- Travel to the field to take professional photos and videos as required. All photos must follow the USAID/Q2Impact photography guidelines.
- Assemble raw footage and perform professional editing using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final deliverable.
- Record individual video and audio interviews required for developing success stories.
- Maintain a library of all pictures and videos, organized by date and location.
- Create custom innovative digital and multimedia products using a variety of tools and software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).
- Design printing materials for Youth Grow Activity’s various projects, such as promotional posters, flyers, brochures, roll-ups, and banners.
- Assist in the development of project campaign themes and various media material for publication and distribution through various channels.
- Provide English/Arabic translation and vice versa when needed, i.e. English subtitles for in-house produced project videos.
- Draft short reports, social media posts, and any other needed material.
- Coordinate with the Strategic Communications Specialist to ensure all content is in compliance with USAID Branding and Marking requirements.
- Ensure that all developed materials maintain a high degree of consistency, accuracy, and relevance.
- Any other tasks requested by the Strategic Communications Specialist, CoP, or DCoP.
Minimum Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, media, journalism, languages, e/marketing, or any other related fields is required.
- Portfolio of professional work that demonstrates consistent, high-quality social media content creation, graphic design, data visualization, photography, videography and audio recording abilities.
- 2-4 years of overall professional experience. At least 2 years working for developmental and/or humanitarian projects under an INGO or a USAID implementing partner.
- Excellent English and Arabic writing and communications skills are required.
- Excellent storytelling skills are a must.
- Proficiency in design/production software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, any other software).
- Ability to translate complex data and analysis into digestible resources and compelling visual products for a diverse audience is required.
- In-depth knowledge of video production processes and activities.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office and managing social media platforms.
- High level of creativity and initiative.
- Ability to create short-fused products from conceptualization to final delivery.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to YGA field assignments.
